The Wheatsheaf Inn

The Wheatsheaf Inn is Situated in the tranquil, some might say hidden, Vale of Lorton, a warm welcome awaits visitors to the 17th century Wheatsheaf Inn.

Mark and Jackie have been running this award winning pub for over 20 years now. Between them they have over 40 years experience in the food and drinks industry. Which means that you will be assured a fine pint of local Cumbrian Ale and tasty local food, produced to the highest of standards.

The Wheatsheaf Inn has been awarded the top mark of 5 stars from the ‘Score on the doors’ initiative which has been set up by the Cumbria Food Liaison Group for ‘Excellent Food Safety’. Only a handful public houses have been awarded this top mark within the Allerdale borough.

The Wheatsheaf Inn also employs a number of key staff, most of whom have been here for many years, which is rare thing in the pub and restaurant industry – this goes to show that they are happy and enjoy working here, which in turn assures our customers of the very best of service on every visit.

Great Pub Food ! We were staying in Buttermere but the Bridge Inn flipped to residents only for food (because of the lack of staff, thanks Brexiteers !) literally on our 2nd day of 7 in the Lakes. So we drove to Lorton, about 6 miles away, a couple of times. Great, homemade, pub food, huge portions. Nice Golden Ale on draught again.

Great Village Pub for Gluten Free dining A great little pub, which caters for, and understands, the needs of the Gluten Free Diner (GF due to medical necessity, not dietary choice). Staff were clued up on what was suitable, and what dishes could be adjusted. Also great service when trying to book a table. We could only get a poor data signal on our phone (one of the pleasures of the Lake District), and phone calls were impossible. The person who took our enquiry was not actually working, or in the pub that day, but sorted the booking for us. Excellent customer service. We would certainly recommend the place, and if back in the area, we will will be revisiting, Good work to all at the location. Keep it up.

Gem of a pub with amazing home cooked Sunday roast. We have been visiting this gem of a pub for many years and can't recommend it highly enough. Great surroundings, friendly staff, amazing food (in ample portions) and a fabulous selection of drinks to wash it down with. What is there not to like?? Called on today for their Sunday lunch and it was stunning (as always!) Make sure you bob in when you are next in the area..but maybe don't tell too many people...sshhh!

Highly recommend a visit here, great food, lovely staff and a nice warm atmosphere. Really good find, delicious home cooked food, lovely staff. Each of the 5 meals ordered were all equally good. We would highly recommend this pub, and will certainly go back. The background music was a bonus.

Amazing food!!! Food is amazing! My husband and I visited here for Sunday lunch, we had the roast dinner and was honestly the best meal we’ve had in a long time. Portions are big and food was very good quality. We liked it so much we went back for an evening meal later on in the week. My husband had the sausages and mash, i had the cod bites with chips. Again, the food was incredible. Desserts too were amazing! Staff are really friendly and helpful too, a lovely place we would love to come back to if we are ever in the area again. Compliments to the chef and of course all the staff that work here.

Lovely, peaceful setting in the Vale of Lorton Thank you so much for having Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society this weekend and for making us feel so welcome. It was another great stay. Of course, we found staying on your campsite to be a fine experience as always. Staff members were very friendly, brilliant service and the food was totally amazing. Can't wait to return again soon. All the best to everybody at The Wheatsheaf 🙂

Fantastic Fantastic food, fantastic service, just fantastic. All the food is home cooked and it’s a traditional pub, just what I was after. I loved this place because I was tired of going to restaurants where you get chips with everything and it’s processed/frozen, dry chips/food. I had the beef, mushroom and ale pie which comes with veg and I chose mashed potatoes. We had one veg lasagna, one beef lasagna and a feast burger. The chips that came with the burger were proper home cooked chips, the burgers were just the right seasoning and favour and the onion rings, buns were great. My pie was delicious, the beef and mushrooms in the ale was melt in the mouth and the pastry was just as I like it. The lasagna’s were delicious as well. It was great to see the effect they had put in on the veggie options and wasn’t just lentils in the lasagna, it was full of veg and seasoned really well. To sum it up, everything was just right about this pub and the food and the great selection of drinks. To finished I wanted to mention the staff and how nice and friendly they are.

Superb meals! Delicious dinners, hearty home cooked food and fresh vegetables! Variety of specials on board! Roast dinners and casseroles amazing! Plenty for the children! Salmon was excellent! Several ales on tap! I can’t rate this pub highly enough! We never eat at the same place when on holiday, we usually like to try several places But we could not resist the quality food and excellent service at the Wheatsheaf, once we had discovered it! Enjoy! Make sure to book table by phone, not to be disappointed.

Great grub Myself and my partner were looking for a pub/grub meal and we definitely found the ideal place. Staying in Cockermouth for the weekend, the Wheatsheaf was only a short drive. We booked in advance and was met by the lovely owner and his staff upon arriving. The portions were huge and the quality 👌 stuffed was not the word. Highly recommended. The picture shows: 1. CUMBERLAND SAUSAGE N MASH WITH VEG 2. SMOKED HADDOCK WITH BLACKPUDDING MASH AND VEG
